When a full remodel makes more sense than a single fix
Most Ashburn homeowners who call us start with one complaint: a cramped shower, a vanity with no drawer space, grout that will not come clean, a fan that does nothing. The question is whether fixing that one thing solves the problem or just moves it. If the floor, the shower and the vanity are all near the end of their life, replacing them one at a time means opening the same walls and floor more than once, and matching new finishes against old ones each time.
A full remodel lets you decide the layout first. Should the shower move to where the tub is? Is a double vanity worth losing a linen closet? Does the toilet need its own alcove? Those decisions drive plumbing, framing and electrical, so they belong at the beginning of the project rather than halfway through it.
What a full bathroom remodel typically includes
- Layout and design planning for the room as a whole
- Shower, tub, or a shower/tub conversion
- Tile for the floor, shower surround and backsplash
- Vanity, countertop and fixtures
- Electrical and lighting updates, including the exhaust fan
- Plumbing relocation, when the layout calls for it
Bathroom Brigade handles the plumbing and electrical work as part of the project. You do not need to hire a separate plumber or electrician and then coordinate them yourself.
What we have built in Ashburn
We have completed two separate full bathroom remodels in Ashburn. The first combined a marble-tiled soaking tub with a herringbone tile walk-in shower. The second kept a tub and shower combination but gave it a vertical marble tile surround with a built-in niche, and added a double vanity with backlit mirrors, a quartz countertop and stained wood cabinetry.

Two very different rooms, and that is the point: there is no single Ashburn bathroom. A primary bath in a larger single-family home in Broadlands has different priorities than a hall bath in an Ashburn Village townhouse, and the scope should reflect that.
Permits and inspections for an Ashburn remodel
Because Ashburn is unincorporated, permits for your remodel are issued by Loudoun County's Department of Building and Development. The county lists residential alterations as needing a building permit application signed by the property owner, plus residential trade permits for electrical, plumbing, mechanical and gas work, with inspections at the rough-in and final stages. Which of those your remodel needs depends on the scope. Our permits page explains how this works and links to the county's own pages.
How a full remodel is priced
Bathroom Brigade publishes three reference tiers for full remodels. A basic remodel keeps the same footprint with standard fixtures and tile. A mid-range remodel adds new tile, vanity and shower with some layout changes. A high-end remodel includes a full layout change, a curbless or custom shower and premium fixtures.
| Tier | Typical Scope | Range |
|---|---|---|
| Basic | Same footprint, standard fixtures and tile. | $12,000–$25,000 |
| Mid-Range | New tile, vanity, and shower, with some layout changes. | $25,000–$40,000 |
| High-End | Full layout change, curbless or custom shower, premium fixtures. | $40,000–$70,000+ |
Typical Northern Virginia reference ranges from Bathroom Brigade's published cost guide. They are a starting point for planning, not a quote. Your written scope sets the actual price for your Ashburn bathroom.
What moves a project within or between those ranges is mostly predictable: how much tile goes on the walls, whether plumbing moves, the tier of fixtures, and what we find once the old floor and walls come out. The cost guide walks through each factor.
How the work is organized
Every project follows the same five steps: consult, design, select, build and complete. Selections are finalized before demolition so materials are on hand when the crew needs them, rather than holding up a bathroom that is already torn out. If your home has only one other bathroom, tell us early so we can talk through how the sequence affects daily routines.
How long does a full bathroom remodel take in Ashburn?▸
It depends on the scope. A full remodel takes longer than a single-fixture update like a vanity swap, and inspections are part of the schedule. We give you a project-specific timeline as part of your estimate.
Do I need a permit for a bathroom remodel in Ashburn?▸
Work that changes plumbing, electrical or mechanical systems generally needs Loudoun County permits and inspections. Cosmetic work may not. We review your scope and explain what applies before work starts.
Can you move the shower or toilet?▸
Often, yes. Plumbing relocation is part of our full remodel scope when the layout calls for it. Moving drains adds cost compared with a like-for-like replacement, and the existing framing and floor structure have to be checked first.
Do you subcontract the remodel?▸
No. Bathroom Brigade is a division of Kenney Construction, and the same licensed, insured and bonded company handles the work directly.
